Often not. In England, rooflights usually count as permitted development if they stick out no more than 150 mm from the roof slope and sit no higher than the top of the roof. Listed buildings, conservation areas and flats have different rules, so check with your council first. A new opening that changes the roof structure usually needs building regulations approval as well.

Velux pitched roof windows are made for roofs between 15 and 90 degrees. On a shallower roof, a flat roof window or a rooflight on an upstand is usually the better answer, and we can tell you which suits your roof.

Yes. We fit rooflights into EPDM rubber and GRP fibreglass roofs, and because we lay those roofs too, the upstand and the roof covering around it are finished together by one team.

A skylight is a window in the roof: a large area of daylight, a view of the sky and, on many models, fresh air. A sun tunnel brings daylight down a reflective tube from a small dome on the roof to a diffuser in the ceiling, so it suits landings, bathrooms and hallways that a skylight cannot reach.

Yes. Velux makes electric and solar-powered roof windows that open at the touch of a remote, with a rain sensor that closes them when it starts to rain. The solar-powered ones need no mains wiring, which makes them a neat choice when replacing an existing window.

Usually, yes. Velux blinds are made to fit each window size, and the code on the window's data plate tells us which blind fits. We supply and fit blackout, roller, Venetian and solar-powered blinds.

It depends on the size and type of the job. We give you a clear timeframe before we start and keep you updated throughout.
