GRP fibreglass roofing systems
A hard, seamless fibreglass roof, laid in place and finished around every rooflight, upstand and edge.
A GRP roof is made on the roof itself: layers of glass fibre matting set in resin over a timber deck, then finished with a hard, coloured topcoat. The result is one seamless, hard wearing surface from edge to edge. We lay GRP fibreglass roofs on extensions, dormers, garages and porches across Surbiton, Kingston, Surrey and London, and fit rooflights and lanterns into them as part of the same job.
Why GRP
- Seamless. The roof is laid as one continuous layer, with no joins.
- Hard wearing. Once cured it takes foot traffic well, which suits roofs you need to walk on for maintenance.
- Good with detail. It follows upstands, corners and edges closely, so awkward roofs and lots of rooflights are not a problem.
- A neat finish. Preformed trims and a coloured topcoat give clean edges and a smart look.
Rooflights in a GRP roof
Upstands for flat glass skylights and roof lanterns are laminated as part of the roof, with the fibreglass running up and over each one. There is no separate flashing to fail, and the rooflight and roof are sealed together in one layer. Because we fit the glass too, one team is responsible for the whole detail.
How we lay a GRP roof
- The old covering is stripped and the deck checked or replaced, so the resin has a sound, dry base.
- Edge trims and upstands go on.
- The glass fibre matting is laid in resin across the roof and up every upstand.
- Once cured, the topcoat goes on in the colour you choose.
GRP needs dry weather to lay and cure, so we plan the work around the forecast. Want a flexible rubber roof instead? See our EPDM rubber roofing.
Questions we are asked
GRP or EPDM?
Both make excellent flat roofs. GRP sets hard and seamless, takes foot traffic well and suits roofs with lots of awkward detail. EPDM is a flexible rubber sheet that is quick to lay and copes well with movement. We can recommend one for your roof after seeing it.
What weather do you need to lay a GRP roof?
Dry weather. The resin needs a dry deck and a dry spell to cure, and very cold days slow it down, so we plan GRP work around the forecast.
What colours can a GRP roof be?
The final topcoat is coloured, and grey is the most common choice. Other colours are available to suit the house.
Can GRP go around rooflights and lanterns?
Yes. The fibreglass is laid up the upstand and over its edge as part of the roof, so the rooflight and the roof are sealed together in one seamless layer.
Where we fit them
From our base in Surbiton we work across the KT postcodes, Surrey and London.
Goes well with
-
Flat glass skylights
A clean pane of sky in a flat roof: frameless-look rooflights for extensions, kitchens, hallways and landings.
-
Roof lanterns
A glazed lantern rising out of a flat roof: height, character and daylight for kitchens, extensions and orangeries.
-
EPDM rubber roofing
A flat roof in one seamless sheet of rubber, with rooflights and lanterns dressed in by the same team that fits them.
